About the company
Arup is a global engineering, design and consulting firm that is playing an increasingly prominent role in enabling the North West's industrial decarbonisation ambitions. The firm has been appointed to lead the Environmental Impact Assessment and Development Consent Order documentation for Peak Cluster - the world's largest cement and lime decarbonisation project, which will capture CO₂ from cement and lime production facilities across Derbyshire and Staffordshire and transport it via pipeline for permanent storage in Spirit Energy's Morecambe Net Zero carbon store in Liverpool Bay.
Arup previously worked with Spirit Energy on the engineering concept design for the MNZ liquefied CO₂ shipping value chain at Barrow, including the jetty, marine infrastructure and pipelines that will allow carbon dioxide to be delivered by ship from industrial sites without direct pipeline access.
Arup's involvement in these projects demonstrates the critical role of engineering consultancy in translating Net Zero North West's ambitions into technically and commercially viable infrastructure. The firm's expertise spans the full range of decarbonisation requirements — from energy systems and carbon capture to planning and environmental consenting — making it a vital partner in delivering the region's clean growth agenda.
