About the company

EET Fuels operates Stanlow Manufacturing Complex in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire — one of the UK's largest and most strategically important refineries, producing around 16% of the nation's road transport fuels and employing over 6,700 people directly and indirectly.

EET Fuels has set out an ambitious plan to transform Stanlow into the world's first low carbon process refinery, targeting a 95% reduction in CO₂ emissions by the end of this decade through a £1.2 billion decarbonisation investment programme. Central to this transformation is a three-pronged approach: switching fuel supply from natural gas to low-carbon hydrogen produced by EET Hydrogen at Stanlow's HPP1 plant; deploying industrial-scale carbon capture to remove up to 860,000 tonnes of CO₂ per year; and delivering high-impact energy efficiency projects, including the commissioning of the UK's first hydrogen-ready refinery furnace.

As a cornerstone of the HyNet North West Track 1 industrial cluster, EET Fuels is not only decarbonising its own operations but enabling the broader North West hydrogen economy, providing clean energy to other industrial users across the region.
