About the company

Encyclis is one of the UK's leading Energy-from-Waste (EfW) operators, and is developing what will be the most significant decarbonisation milestone in its sector - the UK's first full-scale carbon capture plant at an Energy-from-Waste facility. Located at the Protos Resource Recovery Park in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire, the Protos Energy Recovery Facility is currently in commissioning and will process up to 500,000 tonnes of non-recyclable waste per year, generating enough baseload electricity to power around 75,000 homes.

As part of the HyNet North West Track 1 industrial cluster, Encyclis has signed a landmark agreement with the UK Government to develop an adjoining carbon capture facility capable of capturing around 370,000 tonnes of CO₂ per year. The captured CO₂ will be transported via the HyNet pipeline for permanent storage in depleted gas fields in Liverpool Bay. The project - expected to be operational by mid-2029 - will be the first of its kind in the world for the EfW sector and will provide a commercial blueprint for similar facilities across the UK and internationally.

Encyclis's Protos project is a cornerstone of the North West industrial cluster's decarbonisation plans, demonstrating that essential waste management services can be delivered while permanently eliminating their carbon footprint.
