INEOS Inovyn
About the company
INEOS Inovyn is one of Europe's largest chemical manufacturers, with major operations at Runcorn and Northwich in Cheshire at the heart of the North West industrial cluster.
As a key player in the region's hydrogen economy, INEOS Inovyn has been producing hydrogen at its Runcorn site as a co-product of its chlor-alkali process for over a century — with the site currently generating around 7,000 tonnes of low-carbon hydrogen per year. The company has been actively investing to scale up and commercialise this hydrogen production, developing on-site facilities to purify and compress hydrogen to fuel-cell quality for supply to transport and industrial customers across the UK.
INEOS Inovyn is also a partner in Project Centurion, which explored a 100MW power-to-gas hydrogen storage facility at Runcorn, and has proposed 19 salt caverns at its Holford site in Northwich for hydrogen storage as part of the HyNet North West cluster. As Europe's largest operator of electrolysis technology, INEOS Inovyn is uniquely positioned to support the region's transition to a low-carbon hydrogen economy while also decarbonising its own chemical manufacturing operations.
