Northern Nuclear Alliance
About the company
The Northern Nuclear Alliance (NNA) is a collaborative network of nuclear-focused businesses and organisations based in the North West of England, bringing together companies across every tier of the nuclear supply chain — from global engineering contractors to innovative SMEs. The North West is the UK's most significant nuclear region, with over 29,000 direct jobs and 178 nuclear-focused businesses, contributing £5 billion in direct spend and £4.9 billion in GVA to the regional economy.
The NNA operates from Birchwood Park in Warrington — the UK's leading hub for nuclear research and development, home to over 7,000 nuclear specialists from more than 30 organisations including Amentum, Rolls-Royce, Cavendish Nuclear and the National Nuclear Laboratory. The Alliance hosts quarterly meetings and sector groups focused on nuclear supply chain development, skills, innovation and social value, acting as a business intelligence resource and advocacy body for the sector. Nuclear is an increasingly important part of the North West's net zero ambition: the NNA has championed the case that 'Net Zero Needs Nuclear', highlighting the potential for Small Modular Reactor investment to deliver £9.5 billion and 11,000 new jobs to the North West, and the region's ability to produce over 8 GW of clean electricity through nuclear-generated hydrogen.
The NNA's membership in Net Zero North West reflects the essential role of the region's nuclear industry in delivering a low-carbon energy future.
