The Offshore Energy Alliance

About the company

The Offshore Energy Alliance (OEA) is an offshore and clean energy supply chain cluster covering the North Wales, Merseyside and Cumbria sub-regions, the three coastal stretches that form the North West's maritime energy frontier. Established as part of the UK Offshore Wind Sector Deal, the OEA brings together public and private sector partners to maximise the participation of local businesses in offshore wind and other low carbon energy sectors, including marine energy, CCS and decommissioning.

The North West coastline is one of the most strategically important in the UK for the clean energy transition, encompassing the East Irish Sea offshore wind zone, Spirit Energy's proposed carbon storage fields in Morecambe Bay, the Mersey Tidal Power project and the ports and supply chain hubs at Barrow, Liverpool and Mostyn that serve the offshore energy industry. The OEA works to connect the region's extensive industrial and maritime workforce — built over generations of offshore oil, gas and manufacturing — to the emerging opportunities in offshore wind, CCS, hydrogen and decommissioning.

By aligning the skills, capabilities and infrastructure of three distinct coastal communities under a single collaborative framework, the OEA ensures the North West can capture the maximum economic benefit from the UK's transition to a clean energy system.
