Protos Energy Recovery Facility

A leading owner and operator of Energy-From-Waste (EfW) facilities across the UK, Encyclis are building the UK's first full-scale carbon capture facility at the Protos Energy Recovery Facility (ERF) in Ellesmere Port.
Currently in construction, Protos ERF will provide 500,000 tonnes of annual treatment capacity for non-recyclable waste, generating over 49.9MW of baseload electricity per year, enough to power 75,000 homes.
Once operational in mid-2029, the Protos ERF will not only provide a sustainable solution for waste that would otherwise go to landfill, but also prevent 370,000 tonnes of CO2 from entering the atmosphere annually.
Part of Hynet North West, captured CO2 will be transported through pipeline for longterm geological storage in depleted gas fields offshore in Liverpool Bay.
