Trafford Park is the largest industrial estate in Europe with 4.6 square miles of space, home to 1,300 businesses and more than 35,000 workers. It is the single biggest CO2 emitter in Greater Manchester, accounting for nearly half of Trafford Borough's total emissions, producing around 713,000 tonnes of CO2 annually.
Led by Trafford Council, the Low Carbon Trafford Park strategy has been developed by Siemens UK, and lays out a roadmap to reduce the areas' emissions, transforming Trafford Park into a low-carbon hub by 2038.
The strategy outlines £1.2 billion needed in public and private investment to reduce energy demand, introduce renewable and low carbon technology solutions, and offset carbon emissions using credit sourcing. The proposed solutions for the park will see a new district heat network, hydrogen infrastructure and solar PV. Implemented successfully, the investment will lead to significant opportunities for the area, including lower operational costs for businesses, new revenue streams and up to 1500 new jobs created.
